My Dear Friends in Christ, Well summer certainly rolled in with a heat wave! Whew! Sure hope you have been able to stay cool! We are still going strong here getting our ideas and plans ready for the fall... which will be here before you know it! We are in the midst of some changes to our staff. Excited to see where the Lord will lead us. Change is good... so we anticipate a fantastic opportunity to involve new people in our Ministries. We have new Children's Ministry Pastor. Bill Baker will lead this ministry and he has already begun to recruit volunteers for Children's Church, Wednesday night Missionettes and Royal Rangers and Sunday morning Kids Church! If you would like to be a part of this, please contact him at bbaker@christchapel.org or his assistant, Misty, at medwards@christchapel.org. We will also be holding our Vacation Bible School (VBS) August 1, 2, and 3 in the evening. It will be a time for the ENTIRE family to participate. Contact Misty to register. I would like also to formally inform you that I have invited Pastor Jeff Nordin to rejoin our staff as our Worship and Fine Arts Ministry Director. Jeff is very excited about returning and has asked that I would share with you a few of his thoughts concerning the future so as to give you a “heads-up” as to what to expect. You are invited to come and meet Pastor Jeff on Wednesday, July 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. All previous and current Music Ministry participants (in all aspects of the Ministry) are invited to come... as well as anyone who would like to join. Pastor Jeff and I humbly ask you to pray about being involved with the worship ministry. I believe God has great things planned for the choirs, worship teams, instrumentalist, dance, drama, mime, sign, prayer and all other areas of ministry. As you well know, our God is SO great and awesome! He is able to go above and beyond all we can dream or imagine! In that regard, Jeff recently provided me with a quote from a line in a book he has been reading which states: "What sets lion chasers apart isn't the outcome. It's the courage to chase God-sized dreams. Lion chasers don't let their fears or doubts keep them from doing what God has called them to do". We will not be having our Sunday evening worship service for the summer. Please take this time to be with your family and friends and enjoy the evenings together! We will announce when we will return to our evening services. But in the mean time, come Sunday mornings... and be cool!!! Don't forget we will continue all our Wednesday evening classes, Home Groups and Sunday School throughout the summer. I look forward to seeing you on Sundays as together we will give praise and glory to our King...Jesus! And a blessing for you: MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU AND MAY THE LORD KEEP YOU. AND MAY THE LORD MAKE HIS FACE TO SHINE UPON YOU AND MAY THE LORD BE GRACIOUS UNTO YOU. MAY YOU READ THE WORD OF GOD AND FEAST AND BE MADE JOYFUL. MAY YOU FIND PEACE THAT SURPASSES UNDERSTANDING. MAY YOU FIND THE ANSWER TO EVERY CRISIS YOU ARE FACING, BECAUSE YOU WILL FIND IN THAT BOOK THE LORD OF GLORY. AND HE WILL LIFT YOU UP ABOVE THE SHADOWS AND SET YOUR FEET ON THE SOLID ROCK. HE WILL PLACE IN YOUR HEART A NEW SONG. HE WILL BE THE GLORY AND THE LIFTER OF YOUR HEAD, AS YOU SEE THE FUTURE WITH JOY AND NOT DESPAIR. IF GOD IS WITH YOU, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE. GIVE HIM PRAISE AND GLORY. In His Service, Pastor Bill and Lynna |

| The Christian Principle of Joy is a Fruit of the Spirit Joy is not the same as happiness. Happiness can be attained with a newly acquired object, a car, or clothing or appliance, for example. A sunny day can make someone happy, or a bouquet of flowers. Usually happiness is a result of something external. But joy is internal. It is not an emotion, but an inner appreciation and sense of satisfaction due to a spiritual reality. For every Christian, the number one desire should be to experience joy even in the face of negative circumstances. In Hebrews chapter 12, believers who are tempted to become weary or discouraged. They are urged to recall examples of faith demonstrated by God's people who preceded them, taking into consideration all they endured and especially remembering Jesus Christ. "let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Jesus believed God's promise in Psalm 16:10: "For You will not leave my soul in Sheol (the grave), nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption." Jesus believed God would raise Him from death, and ultimately fulfill the remaining future prophecies concerning Him. He knew that his sacrifice would pave the way for the nations to come to God. Therefore Jesus could have joy inside. He did not focus on the immediate circumstances, he looked to the future, even while suffering an agonizing death on the cross. Paul brought the Word of God to Thessalonica. Some people gladly received the Word, but as Acts chapter 17 reveals, there was a group of legalistic Jews who were hostile. The resistance intensified to the point that the entire city was rioting and out of control. The situation was so tense that Paul and Silas had to leave in the middle of the night. Later, Paul sent Timothy to check on the believers and was joyful to hear Timothy's positive report of their steadfastness. For what thanks can we render to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sake before our God. (1 Thessalonians 3:9) Even in the midst of chaos and opposition, the believers were joyful. And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit. (1 Thessalonians 1:6) Rather than external things being the cause of joy, the Bible shows that spiritual realities produce joy in a believer. In Psalm 16:11, the Psalmist writes, "In Your presence is fullness of joy." Being aware of God's presence in every situation produces joy. On the night of Jesus' arrest, at the last meal he shared with His disciples. Jesus taught them to retain the Word of truth, and then said His joy would remain in them, and they would experience fullness of joy (John 15:11). He also comforted them: "You now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you." (John 16:22) Written by: Pete Miller |
